Man Shot At East Harlem Public Housing Building, Police Say

The man was taken to Harlem Hospital and is expected to survive his wounds.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A man was shot Friday morning at a public housing building in East Harlem, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

A 29-year-old man — who has not been identified — was standing outside an apartment building at 1875 Third Ave. around 11:30 a.m. when he was shot in the stomach by an unknown person, an NYPD spokeswoman said. Police do not have any information about a suspect, but said the shooter fled the location in an unknown direction.

The gunshot victim was taken to Harlem Hospital and is expected to survive his injuries, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

Police do not know what caused the shooting, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The apartment building where the shooting occurred is part of the New York City Housing Authority's Washington Houses development. The Washington Houses is made up of 15 buildings located between Second and Third avenues between East 97th and 104th streets.
