Man Wanted For 3 East Harlem Robberies, Police Say

The three crimes took place near Thomas Jefferson Park in East Harlem.

EAST HARLEM, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man wanted in connection with three robberies that occurred in East Harlem.

All three crimes occurred in May near Thomas Jefferson Park on First Avenue between East 111th and 114th Streets, police said. The first robbery occurred on May 9 when the man stole a wallet from an unlocked car parked near the park, police said. The thief used the stolen credit cards to buy $70 worth of goods at a neighborhood CVS and 7-Eleven.

On May 22 the man returned to Thomas Jefferson Park and attempted to mug a 33-year-old man walking his dog, police said. The man punched the victim in the face and demanded his property, police said. The victim then threw an umbrella at the mugger, who ran away when he realized the victim had a dog with him.

On May 26 the alleged robber and three unknown accomplices robbed a two men — ages 18 and 19 — inside Thomas Jefferson Park, police said. The group engaged the victims in conversation before attacking them and stealing their bicycles and a backpack, police said.

The suspect is described as a man in his late teens who weighs about 150 pounds and has curly hair. The man was last seen wearing a black and gray hooded sweatshirt, police said. Police did not provide information about the three men who aided him in the May 26 robbery.
