Purse Snatcher Drags Woman On East Harlem Sidewalk, Police Say

A 67-year-old woman was knocked down and dragged on the sidewalk when she wouldn't give up her purse.

EAST HARLEM, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a woman who tried to snatch a purse in East Harlem, police said.

A 67-year-old woman was standing in front of a building on Third Avenue and East 108th Street on Sunday when she was approached by another unknown woman, police said. The unknown woman then attempted to snatch the 67-year-old's purse, which started a struggle, police said.

When the woman wouldn't let go of her purse she was knocked to the ground and dragged along the sidewalk, police said. Eventually, the purse snatcher gave up and fled the scene.

The victim suffered minor injuries, but managed to hold on to all of her belongings, police said.

The suspect is described as a woman who was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweater, a dark colored jacket, blue jeans and dark colored sneakers, police said. The NYPD released photos of the woman (seen above) taken by security cameras.
