Suspect In Killing Of East Harlem Man Is Arrested: Police

A 22-year-old East Harlem man is accused of gunning down 23-year-old Jayquann Francis on 110th Street earlier this month.

EAST HARLEM, NY — Police have arrested an East Harlem man two weeks after a neighborhood shooting that left a 23-year-old man dead.

Jamel Richardson, 22, faces a murder charge in connection with the Nov. 14 killing of Jayquann Francis, near the corner of East 110th Street and Madison Avenue.

The shooting happened around 7:41 p.m., when police responded to a 911 call reporting a man shot on the corner of East 110th Street and Madison Avenue. Officers found Francis lying unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head.

He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, but could not be saved.

Francis lived just steps away on Madison Avenue, while Richardson, too, lives just a couple of blocks north on Fifth Avenue.

In addition to murder, Richardson is being charged with criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
