1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured In LI Car Crash: Police

A woman was driving with her boyfriend when she went off the road, and the car hit the median and spun into a guardrail, police say.

ISLANDIA, NY — A woman was killed and a man seriously injured in a crash in Islandia early Monday, Suffolk police said.

Erika Figueroa, 26, of Medford, was driving a 2010 Ford Edge eastbound on the Long Island Expressway, between exits 58 and 59, with her boyfriend, Juan Reyes, 34, of Medford, in the front passenger seat, around 2:40 a.m. Monday, police said.

Figueroa drove into the center median, causing the Ford to spin around and strike the right guardrail, police said.

Figueroa was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital. Reyes suffered serious injuries and was brought to a nearby hospital, police said.

The Ford was impounded for a safety check. Detectives asked anyone with information on the
crash to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
