Man Killed In Collision With Tractor-Trailer On Long Island Expressway
The driver rear-ended a tractor-trailer and was ejected from his Jeep, police say. The crash happened early Monday.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — A man was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer on the Long Island Expressway in Hauppauge early Monday, Suffolk police said.
Brian Nieves, 38, of Bay Shore, was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the middle lane of the westbound L.I.E. around 3:10 a.m. when he crashed into the back of a 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by a 55-year-old Medford man, police said.
Nieves, who was alone, was ejected from the Jeep and died at the scene, police said. The tractor-trailer driver, who was also alone in his vehicle, was not injured.

The Jeep was impounded for a safety check. The tractor-trailer's safety was checked by officers.
Detectives asked anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.

The collision caused all westbound lanes near Exit 56 of the expressway to close for several hours, according to 511 NY. The lanes have since reopened.
