Free Food Distribution For Laid-Off Federal Workers Coming to Hauppauge
Long Island Cares will provide for federal workers affected by the government shutdown.

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. — Long Island Cares will host an emergency food distribution for laid-off federal employees and their families on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its Center for Community Engagement, 75 Davids Drive, Hauppauge.
The event, organized in response to the ongoing government shutdown, will provide free food and essentials to federal workers affected across Nassau and Suffolk counties. Registration is required in advance, and attendees must show federal employee identification upon arrival.
All food being distributed was purchased directly by Long Island Cares — without government subsidies — reflecting the organization's commitment to supporting workers during this critical time. Long Island Cares' new "Farm to Truck" vehicle, capable of transporting thousands of pounds of fresh produce, will also be on-site for the event.

Much of the produce will come from East End farms, including Hapco Farms in Westhampton, which supplied 100 boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables. Additional items include dairy products and 300 cartons of eggs from upstate New York. Stop & Shop is also donating $5,000 in $25 gift cards to distribute during the event.
