HAUPPAUGE, NY — Hauppauge High School students gathered on the football field on Sept. 11 to commemorate Patriot Day, the school district announced.
Alongside administrators, staff, police officers and firefighters, students unfurled a giant American flag. As they held the flag, all in attendance stood for a moment of silence before the chamber choir, led by Leanne Contino, sang the national anthem and "God Bless America."
"The unification illustrated by the Hauppauge High School community mirrored the unwavering, collective spirit of a nation as they remembered and honored the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001," the school district wrote.
