Man Who Won Large Payout Robbed In Parking Lot Of Jake's 58 Casino On LI: PD

The thief realized he had only taken a small amount of money at first, then knocked the man to the ground and tried to steal more: police.

ISLANDIA, NY — A man was robbed in the parking lot of a Long Island casino Sunday, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place at Jake's 58 Casino Hotel on Express Drive North in Islandia.

A 71-year-old man was walking to his car after winning a large cash payout at Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel, when Aaron Hayes, 24, of Port Jefferson Station, approached him, reached into his pocket, stole a small amount of cash, and then ran away at 3:40 p.m. , police said.

Hayes realized he had stolen only a small amount, so he returned to the man, knocked him to the ground, and started going through his coat pockets looking for more money, police said.

When two good Samaritans intervened, Hayes gave-up looking for the cash, ran to his vehicle and fled the scene, police said.

Following an investigation by Fourth Squad detectives, Hayes was arrested outside his residence at 11 p.m., police said.

He was charged with third-degree robbery and was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday, police said.
