• New Suffolk Law Targets Human Trafficking At Hotels, Motels: Officials (patch.com) — In Hauppauge, Suffolk lawmakers have approved a new law tightening rules on hotels and motels to combat human trafficking, including stricter guest records, limits on hourly rentals, and mandatory staff training. County Executive Ed Romaine plans to sign the measure, which officials say will help law enforcement track traffickers and better protect vulnerable residents across Hauppauge and the rest of Suffolk County.
   

• Second Teen Charged After Car Stolen With 3-Year-Old Inside On Long Island: Police (dailyvoice.com) — Police say a stolen car with a 3-year-old inside was found on Bretton Road in Hauppauge after an overnight search, and the child was unharmed. A second 17-year-old from Central Islip has now been charged in the case, which began with the vehicle taken from a driveway in Central Islip.
   

• LIPA rethinks energy strategy amid uncertainty over renewables (newsday.com) — LIPA’s evolving energy strategy includes a new battery storage project planned in Hauppauge, which could affect how reliably and affordably local homes and businesses are powered. Officials now expect to rely more on traditional fossil-fuel plants and nuclear power while still pursuing select renewables and battery storage across Long Island. The debate continues over whether they’re moving too quickly away from a greener path.
