Sidewalks on Townline Road to be Completed by Mid-October

Legislator says project was "much, much needed."

A project to improve walkability on Townline Road is in full swing.

According to Bill Hillman, Suffolk County's chief engineer, the county is spending $350,000 on new sidewalks, which will stretch from Lincoln Boulevard to Hoffman Lane when it is completed in mid-October. The work began in mid-July.

"We are replacing damaged sidewalk. Asphalt sidewalk, we’re replacing with concrete. And where there is no sidewalk, we are installing sidewalk," Hillman said.

The street, a busy county road lined with houses, is frequently traveled by students.

Legislator John M. Kennedy Jr. said the work was "much, much needed."

"Think about how many hundreds of kids over the years have walked up and down there. It’s one of the most basic things that government can do and should do," Kennedy said. "I am pleased and happy to see that in place."
