Nine-Story Manufacturing Hub Breaks Ground In Brooklyn Navy Yard
The spot, at 399 Sands St., could bring between 700 to 1,000 new jobs to the city, officials said.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY — A large new manufacturing hub broke ground at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Wednesday, with the city pumping $40 million to get the project off the ground.
Officials expect the nine-story building at 399 Sands St. could bring between 700 to 1,000 job to the area when it finishes construction in 2021.
"We're increasingly hearing from companies who want to be here not just because the Navy Yard provides an opportunity to sustain a business, but also to grow one," said David Ehrenberg, president of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, in a statement. "With this investment, 399 Sands will be developed with exactly that sort of tenant in mind."

The hub is part of the Steiner NYC project to revitalize the crumbling Admiral's Row building in the Navy Yard, which will also bring the city's first Wegmans supermarket, officials said.
Aside from office, the first four floors of the building will have 430 parking spaces for Wegmans customers, the city said. The fifth through eight floors will be dedicated to manufacturing space while the top-floor will be reserved as office space for creative companies, the city said.
