Norman Mailer's Brooklyn Heights Home For Sale At $2.4M

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY — The longtime Brooklyn Heights home of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Norman Mailer — where he wrote some of his most famous works — hit the market for $2.4 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The top-floors of the 142 Columbia Heights home here Mailer wrote "The Executioner's Song" and "Ancient Evenings" was put up for sale by one of the novelist's sons this week, the paper reported. Mailer previously owned the entire brownstone, but converted it into a co-op in the 1970s and sold off the lower floors before his death in 2007, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The for sale home includes the third- and fourth-floor of the brownstone and has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and 1,636-square-feet of space, according to the real estate listing by CORE. The top-floor of the unit was designed to resemble a sailboat by Mailer and was where he did most of his writing, the agency said.

Mailer was married to six different children and had nine children and at times shared the brownstones with several of his ex-wives at the same time, the Wall Street Journal reported. His son, Michael Mailer, has lived in the home for about four years and previously tried to sell it in 2011, but the deal fell apart when the buyer's found out some of it wasn't up to code, according to the paper.
