2 Nassau Men Charged In Robbery, Beating: Police

Two men were arrested in connection with a robbery and beating near a strip mall.

HICKSVILLE, NY —Two Hicksville men were arrested over the weekend in connection with a beating and robbery near a strip mall.

Around 6 p.m. Friday, two men ages 19 and 20 were outside a mall on Levittown Parkway, near Blueberry Lane, when they were approached by two acquaintances who threatened them, police said. The group knew each other.

The threats escalated and the victims were punched and kicked. At one point, a cellphone fell out of one of the victims' pockets and one of the attackers picked it up and ran off toward Blueberry Lane. The other attacker entered a nearby deli, threatened a worker if he told police what happened, and also fled toward Blueberry Lane, police said.

Police arrested Jonathan Ramirez, 22, of Morgan Street and Nikolaos Safetis, 21, of Blueberry Lane. The victims suffered head and face injuries. Both refused medical attention.

Ramirez was charged with two counts 2nd-degree robbery and 3rd-degree coercion. Nikolaos Safetis was charged with two counts of 2nd-robbery and petit larceny. Both were scheduled to appear in Mineola court Saturday.
