Cops Nab Serial Burglar Targeting Westbury Stores: Police
BREAKING: The seven burglaries occurred in June and July, police say.
Police arrested a Westbury man on Saturday for committing several burglaries in the area over the past two months, police say.
Police responded to a call for a burglary in which an unknown man was inside JN Mini Mart, located at 994 Prospect Ave., at 4:15 a.m. A man matching the description was then seen attempting to flee the area on a bicycle.
Following an investigation, Jean Pierre, 37, was placed under arrest. Police say he entered the store by breaking the front glass window and removing a cash register containing an undetermined amount of cash.

The cash register was later found hidden inside bushes in front of an adjacent building, police say.
Further investigation revealed Pierre was also responsible for burglaries at several other Westbury businesses, police say. He allegedly burglarized the following locations:

- Ultra Wash Laundromat, located 476 A Maple Ave., on Friday, July 7 at 3 a.m. Police say he used a hammer to break into an office and steal an undisclosed amount of cash.
- Outback Steakhouse, located at 1067 Old Country Road, on Saturday, July 1 at 3 a.m. Police say he broke the front glass door and broke open the cash register but did not steal anything.
- Piccola Bussola Restaurant, located at 649 Old Country Road, on Saturday, July 1 at 3:30 a.m. Police say he entered the restaurant by breaking a glass window, broke into a cash register and stole cash.
- Westbury Wash and Dry, located at 278 Post Ave., on Monday, June 19 at 2:24 a.m. Police say he pried open the front plexiglas, broke the glass of two prize vending machines, and removed a watch, a $250 gift card as well as $150 in quarters and scratch-off Lotto tickets.
- A laundromat store, located at 184 Post Ave., on Sunday, June 18 at 3:50 a.m. Police say he broke through the front window, broke glass on a prize vending machine and removed an iPad mini and a $250 gift card.
- Isla De La Dahia restaurant, located at 186 Post Ave., on Thursday, June 8. Police say he broke the front glass door and removed a cash register containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
Pierre was charged with seven counts of third-degree burglary. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
