HICKSVILLE, NY — A pedestrian was hit by a van and seriously hurt Monday night in Hicksville.

Around 9 p.m. Monday, the Hicksville Volunteer Fire Department and Nassau County were called to West Old Country Road, near Newbridge Road, for a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a van.

Police investigators determined a 51-year-old man was driving a 2016 Ford van that hit a 62-year-old man who was crossing Newbridge Road. Police helped treat the pedestrian for head injuries with members of the Hicksville Fire Department.

The pedestrian was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in serious condition, officials said. Police closed Old Country Road in both directions while authorities investigated.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.
