Nassau Son Tries To Murder Mom, Then Attacks Her: Cops

HICKSVILLE, NY — A Hicksville man has been arrested after police said he tried to kill his 82-year-old mother, beating her and attempting to throw her down the stairs of their home. Anil Khandpur, 39, grabbed his mother around 3 p.m. Friday after she walked into the home, then dragged her to the top of the basement stairs and tried to hurl her down, Nassau County police said. When the woman kicked herself free, he attacked, biting her cheek and leaving her with a painful cut, police said.

The woman locked herself in a bedroom for several hours. Once she left, Khandpur attacked her again, repeatedly punching her head, police said. The mother ran away from the home and dialed 911.

Police later arrested Khandpur without incident. He faces charges including attempted murder, criminal obstruction of breathing, unlawful imprisonment, assault, aggravated criminal contempt and aggravated family offense. He was expected in court Saturday in Hempstead.
