India Day Parade Will March In Nassau County This Weekend

The even will celebrate 75 years of Indian independence, and will be headlined by Indian actors and singers.

HICKSVILLE, NY — A parade celebrating India Day — and the 75th anniversary of the country's independence — will take place in Hicksville this weekend.

Long Island's 11th India Day Parade is set for Aug. 7. It will start at the Hicksville Athletic Center, located at 167 South Broadway, at 2 p.m. and head north on Broadway, turn left onto West John Street and end at at 125 West John St. An entertainment stage and vendors will be set up there for a celebration. There will also be free carnival rides for kids.

IDP USA, the organizers of the event, said they are working in conjunction with the Town of Oyster Bay and the Nassau County Police Department to make sure the parade is safe and organized.

The grand marshal of the parade will be Bollywood actress Prachi Tehlan. She will be joined by singer Shibani Kashyap and actor Prashantt Gupta.

Organizers said the parade celebrates 75 years of Indian independence, with a focus on India’s culture and heritage. The two themes IDP adopted this year are "Each One Plant One" to
combat global warming, and "Anekta Mein Ekta" (Unity in Diversity).
