LI Clothing Maker Seeks Tax Breaks To Purchase New Headquarters

HICKSVILLE, NY — A Hicksville-based clothing company is looking to purchase an office space in Westbury to expand its business.

The company, Maxima Apparel Corp., is seeking approval for tax breaks from the Town of Hempstead's Industrial Development Agency to purchase and renovate the building, located at 615 Merrick Ave., which was the former headquarters of NYCB Bancorp. The IDA gave preliminary approval, but the deal is still subject to further review and a public hearing.

According to the IDA, Maxima wants to purchase the building for $16 million so it can consolidate its offices, now located in Hicksville and New York City. The company plans to use about half of the 78,900-square-foot building, and then lease the remaining space. Maxima plans to spend $2.35 million to renovate the building.

The family-owned company specializes ins licensed sports apparel and urban streetwear brands. It designs, sources and sells clothes licensed by the NBA, MLB, NFL and pop culture figures. Maxima said it plans to add 34.5 full-time-equivalent jobs within two years of renovating the space. It already employs 33 people.
