Man Forced His Way Into Home, Choked And Robbed Woman: Nassau Police

Police say the man made off with cash and jewelry, but was arrested a short time later.

NEW CASSEL, NY — A man was arrested Tuesday night after police say he forced his way into a woman's home and assaulted her before robbing her.

According to police, a man forced his way into the apartment of a 35-year-old woman in New Cassel. Police say he choked and assaulted the woman, and then stole cash and a pair of earrings.

A 4-year-old child was in the apartment at the time.

When officers arrived, the woman described her attacker as Shannon Daniels, 36, of Hempstead. Police located and arrested him at 9:08 p.m. in Westbury, just a few blocks away.

Daniels is charged with first-degree burglary, criminal obstruction of breathing, endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree assault, fourth-degree grand larceny and petty larceny. He was arraigned on Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
