Man Had Illegal, Loaded Handgun In Waistband: Police

The man was arrested on Thursday night.

A North Carolina man was found to possess an illegal, loaded handgun outside a motel in Westbury on Thursday night, police say.

According to authorities, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle emanating the smell of marijuana in the Red Roof Inn parking lot, located at 699 Dibblee Drive, at 9:30 p.m. Officers asked the driver, 22-year-old Roxboro resident Harrison Sneed, to exit the vehicle after officers observed burnt marijuana cigarettes in the vehicle's ashtray, police say.

Sneed was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun that was in his waistband, police say. He was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and fifth-degree criminal possession of a firearm.

He will be arraigned on Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
