Meet The Candidates: Carla Hoene For Oyster Bay Town Clerk

TOWN OF OYSTER BAY, NY — Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 2. With voting just around the corner, Patch is reaching out to candidates across Nassau County to find out why they're running for office, and what they hope to achieve for residents.

Democrat Carla Hoene is challenging incumbent Republican Richard LaMarca to serve as the Town of Oyster Bay Clerk.

Hoene, 47, lives with her husband and two children in Hicksville. She works as the director of recreation at a Massapequa assisted living facility, and has served two terms on the Hicksville Board of Education.

Why are you seeking elective office?

During my two terms on the Hicksville Board of Education I have witnessed first hand how important the relationships between local government and the community are. I would like to continue to deepen my public service and be a part of ensuring a brighter future for our residents.

The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The Town Of Oyster Bay is a large community, and it is vital that each part of it receives the attention of our elected officials, equitable access to resources and opportunities to thrive. I would like to be part of a Town Board that represents all parts of the Town of Oyster Bay and ensures that we all have a seat at the table.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

As Town Clerk I would bring the experience of my two terms as a public servant on the Board of Education, where I took an active part in responsibly allocating tax payer funds during the annual budget process. I would increase community access to Town Records and expedite FOIL request response time, while ensuring that it is done with utmost transparency.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

As a current Board of Education member that has helped lead our school district through the pandemic while holding a Director's position in healthcare, I believe I am well prepared to be our next Town Clerk.

The best advice ever shared with me was:
