Long Island Firefighter Injured Fighting Blaze Started By Fireworks

Officials say fireworks smoldering in a dumpster next to a restaurant caused a building fire.

HICKSVILLE, NY — One firefighter was injured responding to a fire in Hicksville that was started by smoldering fireworks.

According to police, officers and firefighters responded to Lotus Asian Fusion Restaurant, located at 16 West Marie St., at 12:14 a.m. Officials say the building was on fire, which had been started by fireworks smoldering in a dumpster next to the building.

The Hicksville and Westbury fire departments extinguished the fire. One firefighter injured their leg and refused medical treatment. No one else was injured.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal and the police Arson/Bomb Squad responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
