North Carolina Man Had Gun, Drugs On Him: Nassau Police

Police say officers found the man while investigating an area known for drugs.

HICKSVILLE, NY — A North Carolina man was arrested Wednesday evening after police say they found a gun and drugs in his possession.

According to police, officers were investigating the parking lot of 828 South Oyster Bay Road in Hicksville, which they say is a known drug-prone location. The officers saw a pickup truck in the parking lot and approached it.

As the officers approached, police say the driver — Eugene Hicks, of Charlotte, North Carolina — got out of the car, and the officers saw what appeared to be a knife in his pocket. Police say the officers recovered the knife and discovered that Hicks was in possession of a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun.

Smith was arrested without incident.

After his arrest, police say the officers found that Smith had an unlabeled orange pill bottle containing:

  • 13 yellow capsule-shaped pills believed to be Tramadol Hydrochloride
  • Four white round pills believed to be Acetaminophen and Oxycodone
  • Hydrochloride
  • Two white capsule-shaped pills believed to be Acetaminophen and
  • Hydrocodone Bitartrate
  • One blue rectangular pill believed to be Alprazolam

Hicks is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, second, third and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and four counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
