Teens Turn Selves In For Elementary School Break-In: Police

They face criminal trespass charges.

UPDATED on Wednesday: Two teens have turned themselves in to police on Tuesday in connection to breaking into a Westbury elementary school on Sunday night, police say.

According to authorities, the 15-year-old boys, one from New Casssel and the other from Westbury, were seen on surveillance video entering Park Avenue Elementary School, located at 955 Park Ave., through an unlocked roof hatch. Police say one teen was then seen taking a black handgun from his waistband as both teens walked through the halls.

The teens fled the scene as they triggered the alarm, police say. No proceeds were reportedly taken.

The boys surrendered themselves to police on Tuesday and were charged with third-degree criminal trespass. They will respond to Family Court on Sept. 18.
