WATCH: LI Showcase Theaters Joins $3 National Cinema Day
Saturday's event will be the reduced price for screenings in all formats.

LONG ISLAND, NY — In an effort to bring moviegoers back to theaters, National Cinema Day was created for $3 tickets at most chains on Saturday, Sept. 3.
One company participating in the discount is Showcase Cinemas with multiplexes in Hicksville, Holtsville and Farmingdale.
Mark Malinowski, the VP of Showcase's global marketing, was a guest on Friday's "Patch AM."

"It is to celebrate moviegoing," he said. "Traditionally, Labor Day isn't always the highest attended weekend."
Not only will customers have their choice of the latest big screen choices, but Malinowski said some classics are making a return to invigorate more foot traffic.

"Jaws is coming back in 3D, which will be a fun way to see that," he said.
All film formats will be $3 for the day. The Holtsville Island 16 complex features an even more immersive experience with MX 4D.
"Your seat will move with the movie," Malinowski said.
While this is the first National Cinema Day, "I do think there's talk of it becoming an annual event," he said.
