Jamaica Fire Kills 84-Year-Old Woman, 1 Hurt: NYPD

The fire ripped through an apartment on 91 Avenue.

JAMAICA, QUEENS – An 84-year-old woman was killed when a fire ripped through her Jamaica home late Wednesday, police said. An 85-year-old man was seriously hurt.

Firefighters found the pair in the home at 166-11 91 Avenue as they responded to a 911 call at 11:22 p.m., police said. The woman was found unconscious on the building's first floor and was taken to Queens General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

She was named by police as Ruth Andrade.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to the same hospital and was in stable condition Thursday morning, police said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
