Stop & Shop Donates 2500 Thanksgiving Turkeys to Food Bank For New York City York at Queens Borough Hall

Stop & Shop donated 2,500 turkeys to Food Bank For New York City, in a distribution program held at Queens Borough Hall to support NYC community members in need. Stop & Shop’s annual Turkey Express program will provide more than 21,000 turkeys to hunger relief organizations across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
According to Food Bank For New York City:
• 20.4 percent or 1 in 5 NYC children are food insecure. This is higher than the NYC general population food insecurity rate estimated at 13.5 percent.

• In 2022 Food Bank For New York City distributed more than 23 million pounds of culturally relevant food to New Yorkers, including Kosher and Halal products.

• In 2022, FBNYC distributed more than 95 million meals across the five boroughs and nearly 21 million pounds of fresh produce to New Yorkers in need.
Food Bank For New York City says the needs for Queens residents is high:
• Food Bank For New York City provides more than 20.5 million free meals per year to member charities and schools in Queens.
• 31% of Food Bank For New York City’s citywide total food distribution takes place in Queens.
• 10.9% or more than 260,030 Queens’ residents are food insecure.
• The average cost per meal in Queens is $4.06.
• An estimated 11.6%, or more than 260,000 Queens’ residents are considered living below the federal poverty level.
