Community Arts Day Returns To Kew Gardens In September
More than 20 local artists will show off their work and offer demonstrations at the annual Kew Gardens Outdoor Art Fair on Sept. 9.

KEW GARDENS, QUEENS -- Queens artists of all trades will gather in Kew Gardens to showcase their talent at a massive arts fair in September.
The sixth annual Kew Gardens Community Arts Day will take over Lefferts Boulevard and Austin Street on Sept. 9, bringing everything from hands-on art lessons to a "fence art' exhibit, organizers said.
But the daylong event's main attraction is the Kew Gardens Outdoor Arts Fair, where more than 20 locals artists will gather to showcase and sell everything from paintings, to pottery, to handmade jewelry, according Kew Gardens Arts, a local group that coordinates the event.

In addition to showing off their work, creatives featured in the Outdoor Arts Fair will also offer demonstrations at their display tables, the neighborhood group said on its website.
The arts day will also feature sidewalk chalk demonstrations, local live music at Kew Gardens Cinemas and a "fence art" exhibit on Grenfell Street painted by local seniors and children. A hands-on "Arts Zone" nearby will also give participants a chance to create their own crafts.

Several local businesses are also slated to join in on the festivities.
Kew and Willow Books will host Japanese bookbinding classes at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. inside their storefront at 81-63 Lefferts Blvd. Spots are limited to eight per class, so be sure to email your RSVP ahead of time to info@thequeensbookshop.com.
The New Homestead Retirement Residence will also host a poetry open mic in its courtyard at 82-45 Grenfell St. at 3 p.m. Participants can sign up to either read three poems of have five minutes of stage time.
The Kew Gardens Community Arts Day will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 9. If it rains, the event will be rescheduled to Sept. 30.
