2 Small Dogs Abandoned In Suffolk; Reward Offered For Info: DA

Law enforcement is looking for the person or people who abandoned the dogs in a state park, the DA said. The dogs were brought to a shelter.

KINGS PARK, NY — A person or people abandoned two small dogs in Kings Park, and Suffolk County law enforcement is seeking the public's help finding them.

Someone driving a tan or gold SUV was seen pushing two small white dogs out of the car and releasing them into Sunken Meadow State Park before driving away around 12:10 p.m. March 5, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said in a news release.

The two dogs were found and brought to the Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter covered in ticks, the office wrote. The dogs were not microchipped and had no other identifying information, officials said.

The Town of Smithtown renamed the dogs Thelma and Louise.

They are both mixed-breed dogs. Thelma is estimated to be 4 years old. Louise is estimated to be 2 years old.

Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-8477. Crime Stoppers has pledged a reward of up to $5,000 for any information that results in an arrest. The public can also provide information directly to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office here.

For those interested in adopting Thelma or Louise, they can submit an online adoption application to the Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter. They do not have to be adopted as a bonded pair.
