'Walk For Hope' Breast Cancer Fundraiser, Toy Drive Set For Kings Park

KINGS PARK, NY — The "Walk for Hope" is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park.

Handler Hope Foundation, based in Northport and Huntington, is raising money and awareness of breast cancer research.

The foundation is partnering with The Chloe Belle Foundation of Northport. All participants were asked to bring a toy that The Chloe Belle Foundation will get in the hands of a child battling cancer.

People can register for "Walk for Hope" here.

There will be fun activities after the walk, including a bagel breakfast and games.

"People should come to the walk to help us raise money for HER2 Positive and NNN breast cancer research," Darren Handler, founder of Handler Hope Foundation, told Patch. "We are 100% a volunteer army so all of the money we raise goes towards that research. We are happy to have The Chloe Belle Foundation present at our event collecting toy donations for children with cancer."

Handler Hope Foundation's mission is funding cancer research and raising awareness for HER2 positive and NNN breast cancer.

Handler founded the charity after his wife, Lauren, died of HER2 positive breast cancer metastasizing to her brain on May 19, 2022. She was 38. The wife and mother battled HER2-positive estrogen negative breast cancer for more than two years.

The foundation hosts an annual "A Night Out With 1 North" party each year to raise money for cancer research while celebrating Huntington Hospital staff.

The Chloe Belle Foundation's mission is bringing joy to children and young adults who are fighting cancer.

The foundation was created in honor of Chloe Lindberg, a Northport resident who was only 26 when she died of acute myeloid leukemia in January 2021. She fought the cancer for 13 months after she was diagnosed at age 25.

The Chloe Belle Foundation, since its inception, has held a variety of fundraisers, toy drives, and events, all with the goal of bringing joy to children and young adults fighting cancer.
