Kings Park Mother Pleads for Return of Son's Stolen Memorial

A Kings Park mother begged Smithtown officials for help in tracking down her late son's military cap - one of many items missed when his memorial suddenly disappeared.ย 

Rose Byrne came forward to ask forย public's help in finding items stolenย fromย the memorial for her late son Seamus Byrne,ย an army veteran who received the Purple Heart for his service in Afghanistan, who wasย killed crossing Main Street after a birthday celebration in February 2011. ย 


Kings Park Parents Seek Permanent Memorial to Honor Soldier Son

Kings Park parents of an American soldierย hope toย work with Smithtown townย officials toย create aย permanent memorial to honor their late son, after a makeshift shrine has gone missing.

Rose Marie Byrne and her husband, Oliver, were ableย retrieve a picture of their son, Seamus, dressed in his U. S. Army fatigues from the Village of the Branch's Town Hall on Thursday afternoon.ย 

High Bids Setback Extension of Kings Park Hike and Bike Trail

The high costs of asphalt paving and work has caused further delays on the completion of the Kings Park Hike and Bike trail.ย 

Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio said all bids received by town'sย Oct. 3 deadlineย toย extend the existing 1.5-mile bike trail by approximately 975 feet, from the southwest portion down to Kings ParkMain Street were over budget for the project.ย 

Whisper Landing Developers Sue Town, Smithtown BZA for Rights to Build

Developers of the proposed Whisper Landingย assisted living facility have filed a lawsuit against Smithtown Board of Zoning Appeals and town officials for failing to render a decision on their special permit application.ย 

St. Johnland Development Group filed a lawsuit on Sept. 25 in Suffolk County Supreme Court over the right to build 136-bed assisted living facility on Route 25A and River Heights Drive,ย Newsdayย reports.ย 

Smithtown's Annual 'Dine With Wine' Week Starts Sunday

It's a foodie's delight. Dine out for deal atย 23 participating Smithtown area during the annual "Dine with Wine" week.ย 

The Greater Smithtown Chamber of Commerce'sย 'Dine With Wine,'whichย begins Sunday and runs through Oct. 20, allows residents to enjoy a three-course, prixe-fixed dinner for $27.95 per personย with their first glass of wine costing $5 from a select wine list.ย
