Mamaroneck Police Blotters: May 17-23

Two Con Edison workers injured in a gas explosion on Claflin Ave; a string of larcenies.

The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department investigated the following incidents last week:

Gas explosion and leak

At approximately 2 p.m. on May 20, a small gas explosion and leak at 615 Claflin Ave. left two Con Edison workers with burns. The men, ages 45 and 63, were taken to Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle.

Endangering the welfare of a child

On May 18, at approximately 4 p.m., Larchmont Police aided Child Protective Services at an address on Mamaroneck Avenue. A father delivered excessive corporeal punishment to his youth, and was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and assault in the third degree (both misdemeanors).

Larceny

On May 18, an individual broke the passenger window of a car on West Boston Post Road and stole a cell phone.

Hit and run

-On May 17, at approximately 5 p.m., a bicyclist in a crosswalk was hit by a black SUV near the intersection of Fenimore Road and Hoyt Avenue. The victim refused medical attention. The driver was described as a light-skinned male.

-On May 20, at approximately 6:40 p.m., a bicyclist was struck near the intersection of Fenimore Road and Hoyt Avenue. The victim, a twenty-two-year-old female, was taken to the hospital with minimal injuries. The driver was described as an elderly white male.

Drunk Driving

On May 22, at approximately 1:53 a.m., a 38-year-old man from Yonkers was arrested on Mamaroneck Avenue for driving while intoxicated. He refused to submit to a chemical test and was also charged with DWI and possession of marijuana. He was initially stopped by police for causing a disturbance at a gas station.

Criminal mischief

 On May 23, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a rock was thrown through the window of Foot Locker at 1030 W Boston Post Rd. No arrests have been made.

In addition, police investigated:

-7 motor vehicle accidents

-3 motor vehicle accidents with minor injuries

 

The Town of Mamaroneck Police Department investigated the following incidents last week:

Petit larceny

 -Between May 17 and 18, a flag was stolen from a residence on Maplewood Street. The flag was valued at $125.

-Between May 19 and 20, the following vehicles were stolen from vehicles parked on Marbourne Drive and Old White Plains Road: a GPS, iPod and iPod charger valued at $270; an iPod Touch worth approximately $200; a GPS, GPS mount and iPod Nano worth approximately $350; and an iPod.

-On May 20, between 1 p.m. and 1:06 p.m., an individual stole two cartons of cigarettes, a People magazine and Toy Story DVD from CVS at 1310 Boston Post Rd. The individual walked up to the register with the items, and then fled.

*Note: no arrests were made, or suspects apprehended, in the string of above petit larcenies.

Grand larceny

Between May 19 and 20, a credit card, handbag, iPod and sneakers were stolen from a residence on Wagon Wheel Road.

Criminal mischief

 -On May 17, between 8:30 p.m. and 8:55 p.m., an individual reported damage to their car, which was parked in the Trader Joe's lot at 1260 Boston Post Rd. The damage was likely done with a key.

-On May 19 between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., individuals stole a street sign from 3 Galard Place.

Leaving the scene of an auto accident

On May 18, between 12:00 p.m. and 5:20 p.m., damage was done to the driver's side door of a parked car at Forest Avenue.
