VOM Nepotism Inquiry Remains Unresolved

The inquiry—which involves the seasonal hiring of Trustee Louis Santoro's son—will likely be resolved next Wednesday.

The Village of Mamaroneck Ethics Board is still deliberating over a recent nepotism inquiry involving Trustee Louis Santoro and his son.

Santoro's son was hired by the Department of Public Works in early June as a seasonal employee. The board is investigating whether this conflicts with a Village Law that states, "[elected officials'] relatives will not be employed by the village on a full-time basis."

The village has hired an outside attorney at an hourly rate of $320 to assist with the case.

Yesterday evening, the board held executive—or, private—sessions with Trustee Santoro and Village Manager Richard Slingerland, who authorized the hire.

Ultimately, however, no decision was reached. Acting chair Ann Marie Terrone said the board still has to interview an individual who was absent, but would not reveal their identity.
