LEVITTOWN, NY —An internal investigation has been concluded regarding "a serious situation" involving Division Avenue High School students, Superintendent Todd Winch said.

Winch told families in an email that several students from the football team "used shaving cream to spray offensive words and images on the property of other students in the school."

The superintendent said the off-campus activities were not endorsed by the district.

It was serious enough that the district forfeited last weekend's Homecoming game against Clarke High School.

Although he didn't address specific disciplinary action, "appropriate consequences will be administered in accordance with our Code of Conduct and additional plans are being developed to address this issue," Winch said.

He wants the school community to grow from this experience, as they will "continue to teach tolerance, build ally behaviors, and reinforce in our students the need for acceptance and respect for all," he said.

But, he asks parents to have a "heart-to-heart" with their children to "discuss the hateful and inappropriate nature of such actions."
