LEVITTOWN, NY — This week, Governor's Comedy Club is hosting a special fundraiser show to benefit Long Island comedy legend Bob Nelson. Multiple Long Island comedians will take to the stage to support their friend.

The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Governors of Levittown, located at 90 Division Ave. The show is for people 16 and up, and tickets are $30. There is a two-item minimum. You can purchase tickets by clicking here.

A Massapequa native, Nelson is one of the founders of the Long Island comedy scene. He partnered with Eddie Murphy and Rob Bartlet as "The Identical Triplets." He went on to be the opening act for Rodney Dangerfield on his comedy tours for eight years, starred in two of his own HBO specials, and even was a featured character in the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger film "Kindergarten Cop."

Last year, Nelson was diagnosed with colon cancer. The show is a benefit to help him with his medical expenses. All of the proceeds from the show will go Nelson.

The benefit show features comedians Jackie Martling, Joey Kola, Richie Minervi and Rob Bartlett.

"When something like this happens, the tribe of comedians, that's when we show our best side," Bartlett said. "It was the easiest thing in the world to put together a benefit."

The show will also have some special guests, who will appear on stage in a variety of different ways, Bartlett said. He added that it's the first time in 30 years that many of these comics have shared a stage together.

"It's a testament to what he means to all of us," said Bartlett.

In addition to the show, there is also a GoFundMe campaign that has been set up to help Nelson. Those who want to give but can't go to the show can do so there.
