Amityville Extends Storefront Improvement Application Deadline
Grants ranging from $5K-$100K will be given for improvements, and the village would like to award as many as possible, the mayor told Patch

AMITYVILLE, NY — The deadline to apply for a grant to fix up a storefront in downtown Amityville has been extended to March 1.
The village won one of New York's $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grants to improve its downtown, with 11 projects to enhance walkability and transit access, expand small businesses and housing opportunities and promote growth as a transit-oriented center.
One is creating a commercial storefront revitalization fund and renovating building exteriors within the Downtown Revitalization Initiative area.

Grants ranging from $5,000 to $100,000 each will be given out to help cover improvements to building exteriors — painting, windows, doors, signage, masonry, lighting and more. The building must be located in Amityville's DRI area.
Grant application assistance and architecural assistance are available.

So far the village has received nine applications and a few more are in the process, Mayor Dennis Siry told Patch.
"We extended the deadline because we were hearing that people wanted to get applications in but still had work to do on them, and we would like to have as many as possible, so to be fair, we extended it," he said. "It has been a good response and we are looking forward to getting the first project, whatever it may be, underway."
