Bicyclist ID'd In Fatal Suffolk Crash: Police
The man was struck on Monday night, police say.

AMITYVILLE, NY — A bicyclist who was struck and killed by a car in Amityville on Monday night has been identified by Suffolk County police.
Russell Squires, 53, of North Amityville, was riding a bike west to east across Route 110, near Ritter Avenue, just after 11 p.m. when he was hit by a northbound 2009 Toyota Camry.
He was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip where he died, police said.

The sedan driver was not hurt, police said.

"It is with heavy hearts and utter disbelief The Squires Family has confirmed that our youngest of eight Russell Squires was fatally struck by a car on Route 110 in Amityville Monday night December 26th 2022," they said. "We ask for your continued prayers for strength at such a difficult time."
Many people reached out to his family to give their condolences.
"My deepest condolences to the family and utter disbelief that my childhood friend Russell is gone," wrote one person. "We had a great life growing up together, from break dancing, roller skating, playing handball, listening to LL Kool J, Biz, and the Block. You will be missed by everyone who’s heart you touched. Until we meet again my brother, Forty Boys for Life."
