Biz Beat: Lindy Chamber Selling Costumes, Adding Members

The Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce, which has added three new members to its roster of 200, will once again be selling costumes donated by Diane's Dance Center at Oktoberfest.

No matter what the economy, the business beat in Lindenhurst goes on.

Here's a snapshot of what the Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce is doing.

Selling Costumes
As it's done in years past the Chamber will be selling costumes donated by Diane's Dance Center in Lindenhurst at Oktoberfest, the annual event jointly presented by the Village of Lindenhurst and the Lindenhurst Rotary Club.

It's set for October 5 to 7 this year, with the vendors, including the Chamber, open for business on the seventh when Wellwood Avenue is shut down.

"The Chamber will be selling the costumes donated from Diane's Dance Center again this year. The sizes range from little girls' to women's. They'll be sold for a minimum of $5 each, and the costumes are worth at least $70 and up," Chamber President JoAnn Boettcher told Lindenhurst Patch on Thursday.

"It's right in time for Halloween, [and] it's always a big hit," she added.

According to Boettcher, Diane's Dance Center and the CoC have been doing this for several years now.

"It's been at least seven years or so, and she donates every single year. The costumes are new from her recitals. She's got hundreds; she's always replenishing the stock," Boettcher said.

The Chamber's booth will be set up in the same location, at the corner of East Hoffman and North Wellwood Avenues, in front of the Village Square.

New Businesses
The CoC has also recently added three new members to its list of approximately 200 Lindy businesses:

  • Hang Out to Dry, a laundromat located at 200 East Montauk Highway.
  • RPM Marine, located at 711 Montauk Highway.
  • Turtle Graphics, a new sign business located at 924 South Fourth Street.

Boettcher said all three are new to the Chamber, and have been opened in the Village for a little while, but none have had grand openings yet.

"We usually wait to hear from the owners to let us know when we could schedule grand openings for them," she noted.

Website
Last, but not least, if any businesses have logged onto the CoC's website in recent months, they'll have likely noticed the changes to the site.

"Chris is our web guy. He's doing a good job. We're working on more changes, so the site is a work in progress," said Boettcher, who's talking about Chris Vourtis, Chronwin Information Technologies Incorporated, in Lindenhurst.

Next Meeting
The Chamber meets on the second Wednesday of the month at different locations, so the next Chamber meeting will be on October 10 at Goccia D'Oro.

"There'll be networking between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.," Boettcher noted.

A Suffolk COPE officer will give a police report, but Boettcher said there's no confirmation yet for who the main guest speaker will be.
