Bomb Threat in Boys' Bathroom Causes LHS to Tighten Security

The threatening message found at Lindenhurst High School on Thursday is prompting additional school security measures on Friday.

Parents and students will see additional security measures at Lindenhurst High School on Friday in response to a threat that was found written in a boys' bathroom on Thursday.

Lindenhurst Patch has learned LHS students were dismissed early on Thursday afternoon, all after-school activities were canceled because of it, and the school was on lockdown while the building was searched and swept.

And while classes are still scheduled for Friday, there'll be extra security and bag checks.

The Lindenhurst School District confirmed the threat on Thursday night, and released the following statement, part of which was also posted on its website:

"There was a bomb threat at Lindenhurst High School, scheduled for Friday, October 19.

"The threatening message was written on the wall in a boy’s bathroom. The police were called immediately, and the building was searched.

"As a precaution students and staff were dismissed early on Thursday, October 18, and all after-school activities were canceled for Thursday and Friday, October 19, due to a threatening message found at the high school. Upon discovery of the message, district officials immediately contacted the Suffolk County Police Department, who searched the building.

"In addition to canceling after-school activities, Lindenhurst High School will have extra security present for Friday, October 19. Students’ bags will also be checked upon entering the building.

"As always the District’s top priority is the safety and security of our students. We will continue to keep the community informed of any important information.”

Parents were also notified by phone in a School Messenger message from Principal Dan Giordano earlier on Thursday, October 18.

Suffolk Police would not comment on the incident on Thursday night.
