A two-car crash in West Babylon on Tuesday evening killed an elderly West Babylon man, and sent a Lindenhurst man and his male passenger to the hospital.
Werner Goebel, 81, was driving his 2009 Honda Civic southbound on Route 109, and attempted to make a left turn onto Platt Avenue, police said.
That's when, police said, Goebel was struck by a 2001 Dodge Ram pick-up truck, traveling Northbound on 109, driven by Matthew Silverman, 23, at 5:59 p.m.

Police said Goebel, of West Babylon; Silverman, of Lindenhurst; and Silverman's 17-year-old male passenger were all transported to in West Islip.
Goebel was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police, while Silverman and his passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police said both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, and the investigation is continuing.
