Car Drives through Fence of Construction Site

Police say a woman drove through the fence of the site of the new bank being built on Montauk Highway and Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst on Monday.

If residents were driving along Montauk Highway at South Wellwood Avenue on Monday afternoon, then they would've seen the car that drove through the fence of the construction site of the new First National Bank branch being built at that corner.

According to Captain Kevin Degnan of the SCPD's First Precinct, a 49-year-old woman was driving Northbound on South Wellwood Avenue and made a right onto Eastbound Montauk Highway.

"The woman said there was a chain on the rear-view mirror that got caught on the knob on the steering wheel when she made the turn," Degnan told Lindenhurst Patch on Thursday afternoon.

"She said because it got caught she couldn't stop turning, and ended up driving through the fence and into the ditch," he added.

The captain said there were no injuries and no other vehicles were involved. A tow truck was called to pull the vehicle out of the ditch.
