Child Hospitalized After Getting Hit By Car While Riding Bike: Police

An 8-year-old boy was struck by an SUV and seriously injured on Long Island Friday afternoon, Suffolk County police say.

WYANDANCH, NY — An 8-year-old boy was struck by an SUV and seriously injured on Long Island Friday afternoon, according to Suffolk County police.

Darrin Benion, of Mastic, was riding his bicycle northbound on Brook Avenue near Spruce Street when he veered into the middle of the roadway and was struck by a 2016 Honda CR-V driven by Myaysia Lloyd, of Wyandanch, police said.

Benion was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries and Lloyd was not injured, police said.

Lloyd was issued a summons for driving with a permit only and the Honda was impounded for a safety check, police said.
