Children Injured In School Bus Crash On Long Island: Police

A crash involving a mini school bus and a sedan sent 4 children and 3 adults to the hospital on Monday evening, Suffolk police say.

LINDENHURST, NY — A school bus crash injured eight people—including four children—on Monday night in Long Island, according to Suffolk County police.

According to police, the two-vehicle crash involved a mini school bus and a sedan after the car's driver failed to stop at a red light and collided with the mini bus at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and North Delaware Avenue around 4:55 p.m. in North Lindenhurst.

Police said there were eight passengers on the bus including five children 5-years-old and younger. The driver, an aide, a teacher and four of the children were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Police said the parents of the fifth child declined medical attention on behalf of the child at the scene.

The driver of the sedan was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and will be issued summonses for traffic violations, police said.

Officers from the Motor Carrier Safety Section of the Highway Patrol Bureau responded to the scene to perform a safety check on the bus, police said.
