Cops: Helicopter Search Wed. Night Was Part of Pursuit
Aviation was sent up on Wednesday night to assist officers search for someone who was wanted for a felony, say Suffolk Police officials.
Resident reports of a Suffolk Police helicopter late on Wednesday night flying in and around the North Lindenhurst area turned out to be a search for someone believed to involved in a felony.
According to Suffolk Police, "COPE officers initiated a pursuit for someone who was wanted for a felony. That person was not found."
Resident reports on Facebook on Wednesday night indicated they saw a spotlight from a police helicopter heading over Zahn's Park and New Horizons in North Lindy.
However, police officials said the search was in the area of Arthur Street and North Somerset. Both streets appear to be in nearby North Amityville, according to Google Maps.
Aviation was called to assist officers, police said, noting the call was active for one hour and 40 minutes, starting at 11:30 p.m.
No other details about this May 2 incident were available at presstime.
