Drunk Homeless Man Damages Multiple Cars in Crash on Friday Night

Man stole vehicle earlier in the evening and manages to injure no one in crash.

A drunk man allegedly drove a stolen vehicle drunk on Friday night, crashing the truck into multiple parked cars before flipping his own over.

Suffolk County Police told Newsday a homeless man, Evgen Kovtun, 28, stole a red Chevy Suburban around 11:30 p.m. Friday and struck several parked cars on North Sixth Street, between John and Hoffman Avenues, before flipping the vehicle.

Kovtun was pulled from the wreckage on the quiet residential street and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Police said Kovtun, who had no listed address, was intoxicated when he stole the vehicle.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He will be arraigned at a later date.
