Ms. New York Senior American Pageant Moves Out of Lindenhurst
The Miss New York Senior American Pageant will no long be calling Lindenhurst home – the event will be heading to Hofstra University starting in 2014.
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano announced on November 7 the pageant would be heading to Long Island's other county, with Hofstra University in Uniondale providing the new home.
Fire Department Fights Backyard Blaze on S. 2nd St
A backyard fire is out after the Lindenhurst Fire Department reportedly put it out Tuesday afternoon on South 2nd Street in Lindenhurst.
A nearby neighbor told Patch the fire began at around 4:30 p.m. in the backyard of a home between East Hoffman Avenue and West Gates Avenue on South 2nd Street.
Babylon Town Board Rescinds Public Intoxication Law
The Babylon Town Board repealed the law that would have made public intoxication a misdemeanor, although a new version with altered wording could be on the way.
Newsday reports the town board rescinded the law, which was highly unpopular with residents commenting on Patch, before it had been filed with the state.
Officials: Town of Babylon Man Had Dengue Virus
Suffolk County health officials announced Wednesday that a Town of Babylon man was hospitalized in September "with symptoms consistent with dengue virus."
The 50-year-old has since fully recovered, but the case is significant in that it is the first case ever in New York State where the virus was contracted locally, officials said.

Lindenhurst Named Applebee's Most Thankful Neighborhood, Wins Gavin DeGraw Concert
The Village of Lindenhurst has come together once again to bring a major entertainment star, earning a Gavin DeGraw concert after being named Applebee's "Most Thankful Neighborhood."
Applebee's Restaurants held a program called the Thank You Movement up until Veterans Day to help residents give thanks to armed forces stationed at home and around the globe.
