Education Rally Set for Thursday at the LMS

Organizers say the October 25 event is designed to raise awareness about the 'adverse effect the tax cap has had on students.'

An education rally has been scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Lindenhurst Middle School.

Organizers are calling this "a solidarity event," according to an e-mail sent to Lindenhurst Patch by Laura Chapter, past president of the Lindenhurst Council of PTAs, about this rally.

It's set to take place in front of the school.

"The purpose of this rally is to build awareness of the adverse effect the tax cap has had on its students," according to organizers in the e-mail.

The event, the e-mail said, will be joined by Educate NY Now, a coalition of parents, students, educators and community organizations, who are demanding the state government fulfills New York constitutional obligation to provide all students with a quality education.

Organizers are asking residents and parents to join them at the LMS for the October 25 event, and they noted in the e-mail if anyone wishes to speak, then they should call John Mansfield, first vice president of TAL (teachers' union) who'll provide some talking points.

He could be reached at the TAL office at 631-226-0701.
