Students arrived at the high school as usual, but there was increased security personnel inside. And at the start of school on Friday morning a Suffolk Police unit was stationed outside the front of the school.

Increased Suffolk Police presence throughout the day on Friday, according to the Lindenhurst School District, was also part of the additional security measures it told parents and students it was taking via a School Messenger phone message from Principal Dan Giordano on Thursday.

The District also outlined security protocols for Friday in light of the bomb threat in a statement released late on Thursday night:

"As a precaution students and staff were dismissed early on Thursday, October 18, and all after-school activities were canceled for Thursday and Friday, October 19, due to a threatening message found at the high school. Upon discovery of the message, district officials immediately contacted the Suffolk County Police Department, who searched the building.

"In addition to canceling after-school activities, Lindenhurst High School will have extra security present for Friday, October 19. Students’ bags will also be checked upon entering the building.

"As always the District’s top priority is the safety and security of our students. We will continue to keep the community informed of any important information.”

And while all after-school activities have been canceled for Friday, schools officials told Patch on Friday the PSAT exam scheduled for Saturday, October 20, is still a go, but there's no extra security scheduled.

Suffolk Police also told Patch via e-mail on Friday the written threat found by a custodian on a boy’s bathroom wall in the LHS is "under investigation" and "there are no arrests."
