LI Man Indicted For Pointing Loaded Gun At Cops, Owning Ghost Gun: DA
Detectives had executed a search warrant in his home when he threatened the officers, police say.

COPIAGUE, NY — A Copiague man was indicted before a grand jury on Wednesday, after he threatened officers with a loaded handgun and detectives found numerous illegal guns and drugs in his home in November, District Attorney Ray Tierney said.
Cory Tyson, 40, is charged with: three counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance; five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon; six counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon; one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon; one count of menacing a police officer; five counts of criminal possession of a firearm, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, before Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro.

On Nov. 4 at 6 a.m., detectives executed a search warrant at Tyson's 44th Street home, following an anonymous tip and an investigation.

When police entered the home, Tyson pointed a loaded illegal 9 MM semi-automatic handgun at Emergency Service Officers and refused numerous police directives to put the weapon down, officials said.
After several minutes, Tyson complied and was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Inside the home, officers recovered three additional illegal 9 MM handguns, one illegal 9 MM polymer P80 ghost gun, three illegal assault weapons, two shotguns, and six high-capacity ammunition devices.
Additionally, 20 grams of cocaine, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a digital scale were all seized, police said.

“This defendant is not only alleged to have illegally sold dangerous drugs out of his home in Suffolk County, he was brazen enough to point an illegal and loaded handgun at police officers who were attempting to get those deadly drugs off the streets,” said Tierney.
"The fact that these officers are alive after this defendant pointed that firearm directly at them is a testament to the swift and strategic actions that members of the Suffolk County Police Department took to subdue this defendant and successfully execute the search warrant," said Tierney.
At the indictment, Honorable Ambro also placed Tyson on supervised release with GPS conditions and a 9 p.m. curfew.
His next court date is February 1, 2023.
